My purpose for money :
Create a business where through art I am helping people explore and embrace their emotions and wellbeing. Freedom to explore the world, cultivate friendships and beautiful working relationships. Grow and expand the Twenty5 Project into a philanthropic goldmine. Create programs and services to engage and inspire the Milspouse community. Live in a home that is comfortable, loving, nurturing and “homey”. Go shopping for things I love without looking at the pricetag. Spend time with my nieces (and any other additional family that have come along), help them with education and travel. Take girlfriends away for a spa retreat. Buy a Volvo.
Yeah. That’s right. A Volvo. (It’s Swedish and safe, what can I say?!)

When I saw Danielle’s topic for this week’s burning question (What’s Your Purpose For Money?), I must admit I baulked. My immediate reaction was no. I’m not doing it. I literally wanted to run away from it, I was determined I was not.not.not going to do it.
Which, of course, is the very reason I knew I must.must.must do it.

It’s easy to say that money doesn’t matter. And sure ~ next to health, family, friends, it doesn’t.
Yet, for most of us, we think about it all the time, don’t we?
Problem is we’re thinking about the lack of it.
So we run with the affirmations trend and throw around statements like
“I want to make more than $100,000 this year”,
“more than $1 million next month”,
“eleventy billion this week”.
Danielle’s point, as I see it, is getting us to ask why. Why do we want that amount? What is it we want to do, have, be that having this money allows? Cash isn’t the goal ~ what we can do with our lives when we have it is. I don’t think we think about it in that way. I certainly didn’t. And now, I’m so glad I have.
(I drew this girl a little while ago, and she's always reminded me of Susannah Conway :). I think she's perfect for these words. Print in the shop.)

Totally agree that people are more focused on the lack of money than on our purpose for it! I hadn't thought of it that way when I first read this week's Burning Question but it makes perfect sense.
thanks for going there with the question. beautiful. xo
Sara ~ it's great isn't it. So simple, but it changes everything.
Danielle ~ Thank you for visiting, means a lot x

Very thought provoking!
Great response. I love your site--great design & you just write with this voice that draws me in. I'm glad I came across you via Danielle's Burning Question series. I'm going to tackle the money one too, and soon. I, like you, balked at the question. It feels like it has nothing to do with my blog's theme. But ..... well, you made it all so clear. It's about the "why." :)
Oh this is so good! Because so often what we "want" is the feeling we'll get when we have x, y or z. And yet when we imagine those things, we have the feelings regardless of the "thing" and the having of it. So, while money can most definitely provide an access point to the "things" and experiences we think we want, we can have the feelings those things will bring us light years ahead of time. And the irony is that when we FEEL those good feelings ahead of time, we are more likely to take actions that will lead to us having them. It's nutty, but so true. I love the things you want to do with your money, and think you will do even more than you can imagine when you have fulfilled all those needs as well. It's more about knowing what your wants and needs are, and this is a brilliant exercise. :)
