Friday, May 25, 2012 I've been an avid TV watcher most of my life - although nowadays I'm watching the least I ever have. However it occured to me that there are many things I know (or perhaps worryingly, assume to know) that I 'learnt' sitting in front of the box.
Fact and fiction, serious and silly, here's a few I thought of:
* I learnt from "The Girl In The Cafe" that a third world child dies every 3 seconds, and that the UK fought to bring about change (and they were at it again last weekend - go Team UK!).
* I learnt from Oprah how to be grateful every day, and that I alone am enough (still attending this school!).
* I learnt from "Happy Days", "Family Ties" and "7th Heaven" the importance of family (whoever and wherever you find yours).
* I learnt from the Halliwell sisters (and Samantha Stephens) that we all have our own superpower.
* I learnt from "Masterchef" in the power of dreams and to just get out there and "have a crack".
* I learnt from "Four Weddings and a Funeral", "Notting Hill" and "Love Actually" to never give up on love (thanks Richard Curtis).
* I learnt from "Apollo 13" that a massive amount of people will come together to save the lives of 3 individuals.
* I learnt from Nigella that I can make doughnuts from bread.
* I learnt from watching "The Bill' (and numerous cop shows) how to visualise a swat team clearing a house (used that whilst having radiation treatment :).
* And I am not even going to tell you what I've learnt whilst watching "Sex and the City".
Have a great weekend! :)

Thursday, May 24, 2012 I love how these days we are witness to things moving and changing, expanding and growing at lightning speeds.
When Instagram began I loved the community aspect of it, and how sharing images was so much more personal and inviting than a tweet of text.
As it grew and became successful many other supporting applications have come along. One is Instacanvas, and I'm happy to share that my Instacanvas store is now open. If you requested it to be opened, thank you very much!! :)

As the name suggests - it is my Instagram pictures (well, some of them :) printed onto canvas. There's a choice of 3 different sizes and you can select a white or black border. Love it!
I really adore viewing pictures in a grid formation, do you too? I think it's one of the reasons Pinterest is so popular - it's just so nice to look at!
Hope your week is going well. I'm rather looking forward to the weekend.
(Not unusually ;).

Wednesday, May 23, 2012 Today's Mil Girl interview is with someone named Melissa, but everyone calls her Mel. She loves coffee, baseball and has a fashion blog. She's a night-owl who loves whiskey and enjoys relaxing over a glass of wine.
So far that sounds like my bio ;).
Let's meet Mel!
~ ~ ~
Please tell us a little about you.
My name is Melissa, though I have gone by Mel most of my adult life.
I am 28 years old, a recent law school graduate and aspiring attorney. I am also wife to Al, a soldier in the U.S. Army.
I am a coffee addict, a self-proclaimed fashionista and an avid baseball fan.
Complete this sentence : "Being a military spouse is ..."
...a constant challenge, an incredible honor and one crazy-beautiful ride!
Do you participate in the military community and if so what is it you do?
I am a part of the milspouse blogging community where I have met so many amazing and beautiful women. I hope to get involved more in-person now that I live with my husband near Ft. Carson.

What is the hardest part of your day?
The morning. I'm a tried and true night owl and require a lot of coffee to get going in the mornings.
What is the best part of your day?
Coming home after a long day, kissing my husband and relaxing with a glass of wine.
So far, what has been your biggest challenge or accomplishment (professional or personal)?
The last three years, while I was in law school and living away from my husband, was both the hardest thing I've ever done and my greatest accomplishment. I am proud of both of us for supporting each other's dreams, even though it meant we were apart the entire time. I am also happy that time is over and we can start the next part of our lives together!

Which is your favourite room in the house and with unlimited resources how would you decorate it?
Does my closet count? If I had all the money in the world, I would have a huge walk-in closet, complete with a wall of shoes and a vanity. And probably a mini fridge and wi-fi so I never had to leave!
What is the best meal you ever cooked (or ate)?
I am a terrible cook. I burn toast and put sugar in my salt shakers. I am, however, a really good eater and I can select wine like a champ!
What movie or TV show do you watch when you need a mood lifter?
FRIENDS. It never ceases to make me laugh!
I'm visiting and we're going out for the day/night - where are we going?
I just moved to a new city in a new state, so we would be exploring the area together. First, we would drive up the mountain to hike Seven Falls (or just look, depending on our mood!) Then, I would take you out for sushi and a comedy show. We could end the night with a cocktail and a long talk that would bond us for life!
If you could do anything today, what would it be? (think BIG!)
Go to the spa for a massage and pedicure and then spend the rest of the day shopping with someone else's money. I wouldn't mind getting on a plane with Al so we could finally take a honeymoon, but that would take longer than one day! :)
What is your favourite quote or personal motto?
"Only those who risk going too far, can find out how far one can really go." T.S. Eliot
And finally ... something random most people may not know about you?! :)
I don't like pizza, heavy metal, or Twilight but I love whiskey, jazz music, and the Walking Dead.
Anything else you would like to add?
Thank you for letting me participate, I really enjoyed sharing!

~ ~ ~
Thank YOU Mel, great interview, and I'd love to spend that day out with you! And it appears there are some differences between us ... you don't like pizza?! ...or Twilight? (did I just say that out loud ;).
Catch up with Mel:
on her blog "Head in the game. Heart in the sand."
and you can see inside her current closet on her fashion blog "Many Hats"
